This is all refreshing news to my ears...I've been yawning all day :)
The Benefits of Yawning
Then next time you get caught in a yawn, don't feel bad. According to Patt Lind-Kyle, author of Heal Your Mind, Rewire Your Brain, yawing isn't rude. It is one of the body's best methods of rejuvinating the brain.
When you yawn, you are stimulating a neural area of the brain that plays a major role in being more conscious and self-reflective, aiding in relaxation and alertness.
Yawing also helps balance and regulate temperature and metabolism as well as helping to regulate your body's circadiam rhythms.
Yawing can lift your mood. When you yawn, your dopaine levels rise. This activates oxytocin, a pleasure and relationship bonding chemical. The more these chemicals are activated the more frequently you yawn.
And yes, yawning is contagious because it triggers the mirror neurons in the brain that literally prompt you to reflect another person's behavior.
The next time you yawn enjoy it. It is one of your body's coolest tricks!
